The Customer: Mazenod College
Mazenod College is a Catholic boys school located in Lesmurdie, Perth. It was founded in 1966 and from just 31 students has grown to provide a first class education for 800 students. The College introduced a parent funded 1-to-1 Laptop Programme in 2010 and now every student at the college has their own laptop. The College purchases HP laptops and accessories and elected to go with Targus laptop bags on behalf of parents for the students. The Challenge: Supplying a laptop bag which provides adequate protection
The College decided a 1-to-1 programme would be better for the students and the IT team than BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) or CYOD (Choose Your Own Device). This was due to compatibility issues i.e. Apple machines could not support a number of Microsoft programmes. The IT team decided on 14" screen corporate laptops, however their weight at 2.2 kg, meant wear and tear on laptops bags, would be an issue. The Targus Solution: Targus collaborated with Mazenod College
Targus collaborated with the College IT team to keep improving their patented T.A.N.C. design year on year. Having strong, fit for purpose bags has reduced the amount of repairs to student laptops. The college has now deployed the updated T.A.N.C to all students as of November 2015.The Result: Targus T.A.N.C bags have reduced laptop repairs
Most Australian schools outsource their IT support however, Mazenod College decided against doing this, as outsourcing would increase their IT costs triple-fold. Thus the school IT team provides all the support and repairs to student laptops, thus it was important to supply strong, fit for purpose bags to reduce the amount of repairs to student laptops that the IT team do. Fewer repairs also meant costs are kept down for parents, Mazenod College never wanted the repair cost to rise above $150 dollars per laptop as all of the machines are insured to maintain this low fee. If the repair rate were high, no company would agree to insure the machines. In effect Targus bags have kept certain IT partnerships in place for the College. What Mazenod College Say:
The College IT Manager Hugo Van Niekerk said:
"I am also responsible for recommending products to our brother school Iona College in Queensland who have just bought 800 T.A.N.C. bags. Targus bags are best of breed and we would definitely suggest that anyone goes with them. The cost of the bag is also not so high it can't cope with any issues that may arise. It's an economical solution that allows you to be agile and adapt to the challenges that the student day will throw at you."
"If it hadn't been for the Targus bags I'd be spending all day fixing laptops and have no time to do other stuff. The bags protecting laptops properly means I can work on more critical projects."
